In the last decade, there has been a proliferation of nonsurgical facial rejuvenation techniques including injectables like BOTOX® Cosmetic, dermal fillers, and laser treatments. For a while, facelifts declined, and some people predicted the day that facelifts would be completely replaced by these nonsurgical methods. However, in the last couple years we have seen a resurgence in facelifts because people are beginning to realize that these nonsurgical techniques are simply not capable of replacing the facelift.

The benefits of a facelift over nonsurgical facial rejuvenation are:

  • Facelift elevates sagging facial tissues–no nonsurgical facial rejuvenation procedure is really capable of lifting sagging facial tissues.
  • Facelift rejuvenates your face holistically–nonsurgical treatments, especially injectable treatments, tend to treat your face as a patchwork, addressing problems separately, but a facelift rejuvenates your face as one, which allows it to give total and natural-looking results.
  • Facelift results last–A facelift cannot stop the march of time, but when it turns back the clock, you will likely continue to notice the results for ten years or more. When you compare that to the duration of nonsurgical treatments, which average about six months, the benefit of a facelift is clear.

For all these reasons, a facelift is irreplaceable for facial rejuvenation. Furthermore, you should not think of it as an either-or proposition. In many cases, nonsurgical facial rejuvenation can be used to complement a facelift to provide maximum rejuvenation.
