Dr. Maggie Wetzel is the current Aesthetic Surgery Fellow at Marietta Plastic Surgery, where she builds upon her extensive surgical training with focused experience in cosmetic procedures. She works directly with our surgeons, performs aesthetic cases, and contributes to the exceptional level of care our practice delivers across facial, breast, and body procedures.
Dr. Wetzel’s Fellowship Role at Marietta Plastic Surgery
Dr. Wetzel joined Marietta Plastic Surgery as a fully trained plastic surgeon who had already completed a comprehensive plastic and reconstructive surgery residency.
Her fellowship is a year of concentrated, hands-on aesthetic work that expands her experience beyond her residency. At our practice, she performs cosmetic surgeries, assists with surgical cases, and evaluates patients during consultations. This day-to-day involvement allows her to approach each procedure with a strong technical foundation and a growing familiarity with the refinements that separate standard outcomes from superior ones.
Background and Foundational Training
Before joining Marietta Plastic Surgery, Dr. Wetzel had completed more than a decade of training at the University of Kentucky. She earned her undergraduate degree in biology, her medical degree, and then continued through the university’s plastic and reconstructive surgery residency program. This path provided extensive experience in cosmetic and reconstructive procedures, including breast surgery, facial procedures, and body contouring. By the time she arrived at our practice, she was already a capable plastic surgeon.
Throughout residency, she gained exposure to surgical anatomy, wound healing, implant-based reconstruction, flap design, and aesthetic decision-making. Her decision to pursue a fellowship focused on cosmetic surgery is a deliberate step toward deepening her skills in areas where fine adjustments and sound judgment are critical.
Focus Areas at Marietta Plastic Surgery
During her fellowship, Dr. Wetzel concentrates on three key areas:
- Facial rejuvenation: Surgical techniques that address aging, proportion, and contour while maintaining natural facial expression.
- Breast aesthetics: Surgical procedures involving breast implants, breast lifts, breast reductions, and breast revisions, all tailored to individual anatomy and goals.
- Body contouring: Surgical approaches to reshape the torso, arms, thighs, and other areas affected by aging, weight changes, or pregnancy.
She works alongside multiple surgeons to gain insight into different surgical styles and planning philosophies. This allows her to compare methods, understand why certain techniques are selected, and apply those decisions to her own cases. The variety of perspectives available within our practice is one of the strongest advantages of her training here.
Patient Experience and Communication
Patients who meet with Dr. Wetzel often note her straightforward communication and readiness to answer questions. She prioritizes clarity and makes sure patients understand their options before moving forward with treatment. She always assesses a patient’s goals, reviews realistic outcomes, and determines whether a particular procedure is the right choice.
Her approach aligns with the values of Marietta Plastic Surgery: consistency, safety, and individualized planning. She stays involved with patients throughout treatment, which helps provide her with a complete view of how surgical decisions translate into final outcomes.
Life Outside The Clinic
Originally from Princeton, Kentucky, Dr. Wetzel now enjoys living in the Atlanta area. Outside of surgery, she spends time outdoors, visits local restaurants, and stays connected with family and friends.
