Facelift Candidates
If you feel younger than you look, you are not alone. Everyone experiences aging and begins to lose the collagen and elastin which maintain a smooth, youthful appearance in the skin. You might develop wrinkles and lines, and your skin may begin to sag because of this lack of collagen and elastin, even making the skin of your neck droop or develop “banding.”
Facial aging appears differently for each individual, but the most common issues are sagging around the mid-face, deep creases below the eyelids, creases along the corners of the mouth, loss of facial fat volume, jowling of the cheeks, and loose skin under the chin that creates the appearance of a double chin.
There are a variety of factors that can contribute to facial aging, including gravity and time. However, the effects of gravity and time on your face can be erased with a facelift and neck lift.
Your Facelift will be performed by an experienced plastic surgeon at Marietta Plastic Surgery located in Marietta, GA just outside of Atlanta.
Facelift Procedures
At Marietta Plastic Surgery, every facelift option is available and, depending on the extent of the effects aging has taken on your face and your desired outcome, you may choose to undergo:
- Skin only facelift
- Short scar facelift
- SMAS facelift
Each type of facial plastic surgery we offer will provide you with long-lasting results because they affect the skin and subdermal tissues of your face.
At Marietta Plastic Surgery, our commitment is to provide you treatments with which you will be pleased for many years to come.
There are four major phases to any facelift: anesthesia, the incision, closure of incisions, and finally the recovery period. Anesthesia is required to ensure the patient’s comfort during the surgical procedure.
The technique used for the facelift is going to depend on your specific goals and anatomy.
SMAS Facelift
The most effective type of facelift is a SMAS facelift. The SMAS is the layer of tissue that lies over the musculature of your lower face. It is lifted by making incisions behind your temples, in front of your ears, and behind your ears through your hairline. The skin is loosened to expose your layer of SMAS which is then pulled tight and sutured into place. This elevates and repositions the deep tissue of the face. Your skin is pulled back over the adjusted SMAS and excess skin is removed.
Sutures are used to hold your facial skin in its smoother, more youthful position, and bandages or a compression garment may be added for support and to minimize swelling and bruising.

Skin Only Facelift
Unlike the SMAS and short scar facelift, a skin-only facelift does not affect the underlying SMAS layer, but simply pulls the skin taut over the muscles of your face to remove excess skin and drooping.
No facelift procedure affects your forehead or eyes, and for the best possible results, you may choose to include a forehead lift or eyelid surgery with your facelift.

Short Scar Facelift
A short scar lift lifts skin and muscles as a single unit, utilizing a single incision in front of the ear. The tissues are smoothed and kept in place with sutures while your incisions heal.
Facelift Recovery and Results
You can expect to experience some swelling, bruising, redness, and discomfort following your facelift in Atlanta. Medication will be provided to help manage pain and follow-up visits will be scheduled.
Immediately after the procedure, some improvements will be visible, but the final results will become clear once swelling and bruising fully heal.
You will be instructed in advance regarding how to best care for yourself during the initial stages of your recovery.

Neck Lift
A neck lift is often included with a SMAS facelift, as it addresses any sagging skin under your chin and on your neck. If you have excess fat under your chin or a “double chin”, the fat may be surgically removed or removed with liposuction.
A small incision is then made under your chin, and the neck muscles may be pulled together or a portion of them removed to create a smoother silhouette under your skin and a crisper angle to the neck.
The incision is then closed using sutures and may be covered with a bandage.
The best results are often seen when a facelift is combined with a brow lift, eyelid surgery, and a neck lift.
Your Facelift Consultation
Each Atlanta facelift or neck lift procedure is tailored to meet the goals of the individual, and there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all technique.
A consultation is one of the most important steps of any plastic surgery procedure. During a consultation, you can determine your specific surgical goals and discuss your personal medical history and surgical history.
You will also be able to gain a better understanding of the details of the procedure, including the surgical technique used, recommended course of treatment, and recovery steps. Photographs and measurements of your face will be taken to create a specific surgical plan fit for you.
What is the Cost of a Facelift?
The cost of your facelift in Atlanta will depend on the extent of the work being performed, the techniques used, and other factors. When you come in for your consultation, price and payment options will be discussed so you can be fully informed before your procedure.
