Atlanta Breast ReductionSome women feel their breasts are too large. You are the only one who can decide what breast size is right for you. Unlike breasts that are too small or too saggy, breasts that are too large can have serious physical consequences in addition to their psychological effects. If you suffer from too-large breasts, the side effects may include:

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Shoulder depressions or irritation from your bra straps
  • Difficulty finding clothing that fits you correctly
  • Feeling unattractive or self-conscious

If your breasts are proportionately too large for your body, you may be an ideal candidate for breast reduction surgery.

Your Breast Reduction will be performed by an experienced plastic surgeon at Marietta Plastic Surgery located in Marietta, GA just outside of Atlanta.

Benefits of Breast Reduction

Breast reduction is a type of breast surgery that reduces the size of your breasts. Breast reduction also involves a breast lift to reposition and reshape the breasts at the same time that the volume of the breasts is reduced. This makes the breasts:

  • Smaller
  • Firmer
  • Lighter
  • More youthful
  • Less saggy

A breast reduction can provide additional benefits, including:

  • Improved posture
  • Reduced neck, shoulder, and back pain
  • Greater ease finding clothes that fit
  • Renewed confidence when wearing fitted clothing or swimsuits

Breast Reduction Procedure

Breast Reduction Before & AftersYour breast reduction procedure will begin by discussing your goals and expectations with one of our board-certified Marietta breast surgeons. Once you have determined the desired size, shape, and placement of your breasts, you can discuss the surgery in detail, including the length of the procedure and the expected recovery time.

Breast reduction is typically performed under general anesthesia. Incisions are made so that excess fat and skin can be removed without affecting the nerves and blood supply of your nipple and areola. Excess fat is excised from the lower portion of your breast and the nipple is moved higher on your breast. The breast mound is reshaped. Absorbable sutures may be placed internally to help support the sub-dermal tissue during your recovery.

After the desired amount of excess breast tissue has been removed, the surgeon will place stitches to bring the incisions together, forming a smaller skin envelope similar to that resulting from a breast lift. You may return to work after about a week, but avoid strenuous activity and exercise for approximately four weeks. Complete recovery will require four to six weeks.
