What is a breastlift?

A breast lift is a surgical procedure which reverses the effects of time and gravity that stretch the skin and make your breasts saggy and appear to lack volume.

Will a breastlift make my breasts smaller or larger?

Unlike other breast surgery procedures, a breastlift does not generally change the size or actual volume of your breast, but only the shape and position. Although your breasts may appear to have more or less volume and your bra size may change, this is only the result of having the same amount of tissue in a smaller skin envelope.

Who is a good candidate for a breastlift?

A woman may be a good candidate for a breastlift if she:

  • Suffers from loose or saggy breasts
  • Is happy with her breast size, but would like them to appear fuller or more “perky”
  • Is in good overall health
  • Does not smoke
  • Is not pregnant or expecting to become pregnant

How invasive is the breastlift procedure?

Depending on the amount of lift and the size of your breasts, you may need a more or less invasive type of breastlift in order to achieve your goals. Women with smaller breasts or less skin laxity often are often able to achieve their desired results with a less invasive breastlift. However, if you have larger breasts which are more affected by gravity, or have experienced massive weight loss, a more extensive procedure may be necessary to achieve the results you want.

Can I include a breastlift with other types of breast procedures?

Many women choose to include a breastlift with a breast augmentation. Lifting is also one of the goals of breast reduction size in order to create a more natural or aesthetic shape. A breastlift is also often desirable if you have experienced massive weight loss and would like to reshape your breasts to be more proportionate to your new body shape.

How long does recovery from a breastlift take?

Because a breastlift is more invasive than a breast enlargement, it requires more recovery time. You will most likely be able to return to work after a week, but should avoid strenuous activity including exercise and lifting, for four to six weeks.

What kind of doctor should perform my breastlift?

While any doctor can legally perform a breastlift, only a plastic surgeon has been board certified as having the skills to manage the complex skin and tissue reshaping of the procedure. Plastic surgeons undergo special aesthetic training to provide you with the best possible outcome of your breastlift procedure. Our Atlanta breast surgeons are board certified and members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
