In a perfect world, your breast implants would last a lifetime. Unfortunately, that is simply an unrealistic expectation. Like all medical devices, breast implants will eventually wear out and deteriorate over time.
The good news is that breast implant technology has advanced considerably in recent years, and implants are more durable and long-lasting than ever before. Typically, you can expect your breast implants to last between 10-25 years. Keep in mind that every woman’s experience is slightly different, and it is possible that your implants will need to be replaced earlier than this time frame or potentially last longer than 25 years.
There are certain factors which may impact how long your breast implants last:
- Breast implant type – In general, saline implants are more prone to rupture than silicone breast implants, and they are more likely to develop aesthetic issues such as rippling. As a result, saline breast implants typically need to be replaced sooner than silicone implants.
- Surgeon’s skill – The skill and experience of your plastic surgeon can significantly impact your breast augmentation results. Working with an inexperienced surgeon may increase your chances of poor implant placement, which may shorten the lifespan of your implants.
