As with any surgery, breast augmentation leaves scars. However, there are many ways to reduce scarring from the procedure to reduce the risk that you will be unhappy with the appearance of your breast augmentation scars.

First, consider how your breast enlargement surgery can be designed to minimize the appearance of scars. There are three commonly-used incision sites for breast augmentation. During your consultation, we will evaluate you to determine which location is likely to give you the best concealment of the incisions. Also remember that saline breast implants can be inserted via a shorter incision than silicone breast implants.

During the recovery period, make sure you follow all our instructions for caring for your incisions. Don't stress your breasts, and most certainly don't rush to wash the incisions or apply creams until these have been approved.

Finally, remember to be patient. Scars can take a while to reach their final appearance. Count on at least a year before you really have an idea what your scars are likely to look like.

Most women find the scars from breast augmentation are subtle, almost unnoticeable after full recovery. But some women do experience adverse scarring. If you or someone in your family has experienced adverse scarring in the past, your risk may be greater. Be sure to share this information with us, and we can use it to decide on the best treatment plan for you.
