In order to achieve the beautiful, natural looking results you deserve, the surgeons at Marietta Plastic Surgery customize every face lift to address the unique needs of each individual patient. Our plastic surgeons will choose from a variety of face lift techniques based on the extent of aging you have experienced and your aesthetic goals.

We often perform a SMAS face lift to add volume and reverse the signs of facial aging. This technique is one of the most effective face lift options available.

The best way to find out if the SMAS lift option is right for you is to speak with one of our plastic surgeons in person. Please call 678-494-2380 today to schedule a consultation at one of our offices in the Atlanta area.

What is a SMAS Face Lift?

The SMAS face lift is a technique which addresses the deeper layer of the face, called the SMAS (superficial musculo-aponeurotic system). The SMAS layer is a layer of fibrous tissue that covers the muscles that control your facial expressions, helping you create dynamic facial expressions.

As you age, you lose elasticity in both the epidermal (outer) layer and SMAS (deeper) layer of your skin. This can result in sagging in the cheeks, fleshy jowls, and the appearance of a double chin. The SMAS lift can correct these issues without creating the overly pulled or “wind-swept” appearance which often occurs when the SMAS layer is not addressed as part of your face lift.

The SMAS face lift is very effective at addressing issues such as:

  • Jowls
  • Hollow cheeks
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Loose neck bands

SMAS Lift Benefits

There are several benefits associated with using the SMAS lift technique, including:

  • Addresses deeper layers of skin structure to achieve more effective results
  • Can take years off of your facial appearance
  • Long lasting results
  • Achieves a more youthful, natural looking appearance

SMAS Lift Candidates

Ideal candidates for a SMAS face lift are in good overall health and have realistic expectations for the outcome of their procedure. In addition, good SMAS lift candidates have:

  • Mild to moderate loss of muscle tone and skin elasticity in the face or neck
  • Wrinkles in the face and neck regions
  • Jowls and deep creases in the nasolabial folds (area between the base of the nose and the corners of the mouth)
  • Chin and neck contours which could benefit from a more youthful appearance

During your initial consultation, the doctors at Marietta Plastic Surgery will determine whether you are a good candidate for this procedure.
