If you are considering breast surgery to improve your appearance, you may be wondering whether you need a breast lift, a breast augmentation, or some combination of both procedures. This question must be answered on a case-by-case basis; the best way to find out which procedure is right for you is to come into our office for a personal consultation. Call (770) 425-0118 for our Marietta location, or (678) 494-2380 for our Woodstock location.

When determining which breast surgery would best meet your needs, we will consider a few different factors, including:

  • The degree of skin laxity or breast ptosis (sagging) you have
  • The location of your nipples (e.g. above or below the breast fold)
  • How much volume has been lost in the breasts
  • Your personal cosmetic goals

For example, if your nipples are located at or below your breast fold, you will most likely need some type of breast lift to elevate them to a better position. Placing an implant without a breast lift in this situation would most likely result in the implant appearing too “high” on your chest wall.

If you have a significant amount of loose skin in the breasts from weight loss or pregnancy, a breast lift can help tighten and re-shape this skin to create a more youthful overall appearance. However, a breast lift cannot add volume to the breasts. If you want to significantly increase the size of your breasts, you will need a breast augmentation.
